A very interesting lamp!
Can you believe the lights of movement as in the far about 1930 and was very popular in 1950 when TV lamps were in high demand. Shadow was a drum style made with slits or fan blades at the top, so that the heat of the bulb through the slits increase of more slowly transforming the shadow. Some models have a scene painted on a translucent outdoor track, move and not move or stripes painted inside the drum willmotion to the scene depicted. Popular subjects were scenes of movement of water, rivers, Niagara Falls and a pee Little Boy, ah!
I have a heavy metal Niagara Falls light around 1930, is absolutely fantastic, especially in a dark room. It was created as a 3-dimensional decorative metal frame on a base decorated. There is no shadow, but the picture would be Niagara Falls scene, and seems to fall is in motion.
You can get one of thesePROPOSED LIGHTING in an antique shop or a flea. It 'very difficult to find one that works well, because many of the pieces are easily lost or damaged. You can also find one listed for sale on eBay. The most beautiful that normally sells for several hundred dollars.
Motion lamps are still there today, but unfortunately the new models is very cheap products in China, and not something that your children will enjoy.
